Technical Analysis Webinar Series Premiers In April 2006

By Laura Oatney   ISSUE 503 | MARCH 2006

Is technical analysis part of your trading strategy? Chances are it is. Most individual futures traders find it challenging to stay on top of all the fundamental factors that influence price movement in the markets today, so they augment their fundamental analysis with technical analysis.

Technical analysis uses statistics generated by market activity, past prices, indicators and volume to look for price patterns that can be used to determine future price performance. The data is concrete, and the approach is immensely popular. In fact, there are dozens of technical studies and approaches today's traders can use. How many are you familiar with, and which one(s) work best for you?

Maybe you have a couple of favorites. Or maybe you haven't yet discovered which are best for you. Wherever you are on the technical analysis continuum, Lind-Waldock's new Technical Analysis webinar series should have something for you.

Explore Technical Studies with Lind Plus Market Strategists

Starting on Thursday, April 13, 2006, you'll be able to participate in a free, four-week online series dedicated to demystifying these popular technical studies: Pivot Points, Fibonacci Numbers/Ratios, Moving Averages and Market Profile®.

The instructors are all senior market strategists in Lind-Waldock's Lind Plus broker-assisted division. They're professionals with combined experience of over 80 years in various aspects of the commodity futures business. They've had plenty of time to decide which studies they like and why, and they're going to share their preferences with you.

You'll get both theory and application. You'll learn what these studies are, how they work, and how to help you select one over another. You'll also see them demonstrated in real markets. Each Thursday afternoon event will last approximately 45 minutes, with additional time for questions. Here's the series schedule:

Technical Analysis Basics and Applications

Thursday, April 13, 2006, 3:30 p.m. CT — Pivot Points

Jeff Friedman will start the series with a discussion of Pivot Points. Jeff, a former CBOT floor broker, is Lind-Waldock's "technical voice." He delivers daily morning commentary on our "Strictly Technical" client telephone hotline. Jeff's going to teach you how to use Pivot Points to find key support and resistance price levels and to figure out if they indicate a market that is neutral, bearish or bullish.

Thursday, April 20, 2006, 3:30 p.m. CT — Fibonacci Numbers and Ratios

Jim Comiskey, a former member of both CBOT and CME, will handle Fibonacci Analysis, which relies on certain mathematical relationships among numbers. Jim is going to show you how to use Fibonacci numbers and ratios to predict retracement areas during pullbacks and targets for projected price movements.

Thursday, April 27, 2006, 3:30 p.m. CT — Moving Averages

Greg Perlin will teach you how to calculate Moving Averages, which types you can use (simple, weighted or exponential), and how they can be used to help identify price trends. Greg is a former Cantor Fitzgerald floor broker, and also a former CBOT member.

Thursday, May 4, 2006, 3:30 p.m. CT — Market Profile®

Carol Hurley will wrap up the series with a demonstration of how Market Profile® organizes price and time information and can help you understand how it can be used to reveal pricing patterns as they develop within a market. Carol worked as a research analyst for firms at both CBOT and CME.
